The Challenges of Aligning IT with Business
Aligning IT with business is complex. Its implementation affects:

This presentation examines the challenges associated with each of these and provides recommendations to help you successfully align IT with business needs.

Tracking, Projecting, and Managing CPU Meter Usage
When you purchase a prepaid CPU meter contract, you purchase a specific amount of processing power to be available over a specific number of months. You choose the number of RPM-seconds (RPMs, MIPS-months) to purchase based on measurements of your current workload and your estimates of projected growth over the contract period.

The monthly and interim reports from Unisys tell you how much you have used over the current month. They do not tell you how many RPM-seconds are being used by each program or workload. They also do not tell you what proportion of your contracted power you have used, whether your contracted amount will be sufficient for your current workload over the contract period, or how much growth in workload would result in exhausting your contracted power before the end of the contract period.

We will demonstrate methods of tracking and projecting processor usage on metered systems which will allow you to answer these questions. Knowing how much you are using, how much you have left, and the effect of planned growth on your usage will allow you to be proactive in managing and planning your CPU meter contracts.
